The National Delegation for Road Safety (DNR) has recorded 13 501 accidents involving injuries on Algerian roads during the first half of 2024.
Over the first six months of the year, 16 776 light vehicles, 1 434 heavy vehicles, 441 public transport vehicles and 3 595 motorcycles were involved in these accidents.
More than 40% of the drivers involved in traffic accidents hold a driver's license that is less than 5 years old, while 16% of motorists hold probationary licenses that are less than two years old.
As part of the ongoing fight against road insecurity, the DNR has signed an agreement with the Research Center for Scientific and Technical Information (CERIST). Under this agreement, an IT system will be set up to monitor the progress of applicants at driving schools, to ensure that they comply with the legal training period.
