December 10, 2024

Caisse Centrale de Réassurance (CCR)Caisse Centrale de Réassurance (CCR) has published a scientific report aimed at improving knowledge, anticipation and prevention of risks, and protecting insurability.

The 64-page document presents the research and development work carried out in 2023 and 2024 by the French reinsurer and its scientific partners.

The content of the report underlines the importance of understanding extreme risks, particularly natural disasters, and of adopting preventive measures against these risks to limit their human, material and financial consequences.

The study is structured around the following main themes:

  • risk modeling
  • estimating the impact of an event
  • data science
  • prevention

CCR has also drawn up a roadmap for 2024/2025, focusing on the following areas:

  • pursuing research into natural hazards in the context of climate change;
  • ensuring the scientific relevance of models through research and development initiatives, such as the co-supervision of theses with prestigious institutions and laboratories, so as to improve knowledge of risks and inform public policy;
  • developing new expertise in emerging risks that could ultimately pose problems in terms of insurability.

Part of the report is devoted to the “CCR NAT Cat Awards”. Introduced in 2015, these are intended to encourage natural catastrophe research applicable to the insurance and risk prevention professions.
