Covid-19: Increasing compensation claims in Nepal

In April 2020, Nepalese non-life insurers started marketing health insurance policies including Covid-19.

So far, these insurers have received 17 235 Covid-19 related claims for a total amount of 15.3 million USD. The insurance companies have settled 47% of these cases, representing 7.2 million USD of the total incurred losses. With the spread of the coronavirus in Nepal, the number of claims keeps growing.

The insurers' inability to pay out all the claims reflects negatively on the Nepalese insurance market.
