Cyber attack targets Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines was the victim of a cyber attack on 26 December 2024, which resulted in flight delays and interrupted ticket sales.

Problems with the baggage check-in system delayed at least fourteen domestic flights for over an hour. International flights were also disrupted.

The airline stated that it had identified the cause and extent of the malfunction and restored the IT system. No data leaks or viruses were reported.

Over the past two years, several Japanese companies and agencies have been targeted by hackers, including the Japanese space agency (Jaxa), the Japanese cybersecurity agency (NISC) and Toyota.
