The Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA) announced, on 5 July 2024, the official establishment of the Agency for Combating Fraud and Scams (ALFA) in the insurance sector.
ALFA brings together FTUSA, existing insurance and reinsurance companies, and future companies operating under the Insurance Code.
The new structure's main responsibilities include:
- examining fictitious claim files and fraud cases
- conducting in-depth investigations to identify fraudulent acts and implementing effective strategies to counter them
- coordinating between members and the various parties involved in the field.
According to Hatem Amira, Executive Director of FTUSA, insurance fraud is one of the most damaging phenomena to the national economy. In 2023, this problem cost local insurance companies more than 80 million TND (25.6 million USD).
The new agency is due to start operations in 2025. A call for applications for several positions will be launched shortly.
