Medical malpractice: introducing liability insurance for practitioners in Bahrain

The Bahraini government has proposed a law to introduce a third-party liability insurance system for medical practitioners (doctors, dentists, etc).

The increasing number of doctors in public and private hospitals and the development of medical tourism in the Kingdom justify the introduction of a system to protect patients in case of medical errors.

The third-party liability insurance scheme for doctors and health practitioners has been rolled out in several Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
