Is Morocco lagging behind in islamic insurance?

Morocco is one of the rare Arab countries where islamic insurance has not yet started. Azzeddine Benali, head of life insurance department at DAPS (department of insurance and social welfare), believes that the Moroccan insurance companies in operation are likely to enter this segment drawing inspiration from the experience of neighboring countries. He acknowledges that the current regulation needs to be revised in order to adjust to the specificities of takaful insurance.
