New conditions for underwriting or renewing motor third-party liability insurance in Benin

A joint ministerial decree dated 9 January 2024 has made it mandatory for motorists driving in Benin to present two documents when underwriting or renewing their motor third-party liability insurance policy:

• a valid roadworthiness certificate for the vehicle concerned
• proof of payment of motor vehicle tax (MVT)

Land motor vehicle owners and property and casualty insurance companies that fail to comply with the new obligation will be penalized.
