Over 1.07 billion people covered by basic old-age insurance in China

The Chinese government has released a report stating that by the end of 2024, over 1.07 billion people were covered by basic old-age insurance, marking an increase of 6.39 million compared to 2023.

In the same year, China's population aged 60 and over reached 310.3 million, while those aged 65 and above totaled 220.2 million, accounting for 22% and 15.6% of the national population, respectively.

The report also noted improvements in elderly care services. By the end of 2024, the country had 406 000 elderly care facilities and institutions, providing more than 7.99 million medical beds.
