In 2024, the top ten reinsurers in terms of equity capital had a combined total of 940 billion USD, or 79.9% of the total market. The other reinsurers, numbering 134, shared the remaining 20.1%.
Berkshire Hathaway alone accounts for 55.4% of the industry's shareholders’ equity (1). It is followed at a distance by Lloyd's of London and the Chinese reinsurer PICC, with respective shares of 5% and 4.3%.
