In the United States, the Covid-19 Delta variant is rapidly spreading among the unvaccinated population. The number of hospitalizations has been on the rise in recent weeks and children are not immune to the virus.
On Saturday 14 August a record number of 1 902 pediatric hospitalizations with Covid-19 was reported. Children account for 2.4% of patients admitted to healthcare facilities due to coronavirus.
On the same day, another record was reached in Florida with 16 100 people hospitalized.
Nationwide, 90% of intensive care beds are already filled.
