A Jordanian woman fakes her own death to collect 2 million USD in insurance money

Insurance fraudA Jordanian woman is accused of having faked her own death in order to cash in her life insurance amounting to 2 million USD. The investigation revealed that the woman had underwritten a life policy with three insurance companies.

Her death was announced in October 2022 and a funeral in her honor was organized with a "fake corpse".

Shortly thereafter, the supposed deceased's lawyers contacted the insurance companies to claim the death benefit. In the absence of official medical reports, the insurers became suspicious and notified the local authorities.

The body was exhumed and found to be a plastic doll wrapped in a white shroud.

The Jordan Insurance Federation (JIF) informed all stakeholders of the attempted scam and urged them to reinforce their measures against insurance fraud.
