Alberta ravaged by 100 unprecedented fires

Fire Alberta CanadaSince Friday, 5 May 2023, the province of Alberta, located in western Canada, has been facing a series of forest fires, fanned by strong winds.

The flames have destroyed nearly 375 000 hectares of land and more than 25 000 people have been evacuated from their homes. As at 9 May, 90 fires were still burning and out of control.

Alberta has been experiencing extreme heat and dry spells in recent months, which explains the early onset of these forest fires.

Experts believe that many of the fires are human-made, while 13 fires are believed to be caused by lightning.
