An insurer at the head of the Ministry of Finance

Brahim Djamel KessaliBy virtue of a presidential decree dated 14 July 2022, Brahim Djamel Kessali was appointed Minister of Finance.

Aged 67, the new minister holds a degree in financial sciences from the University of Algiers (Algeria), a degree from the International Institute for Public Administration in Paris (France) and a degree in capital market organization from the Institute of International Financial Services in Montreal (Canada).

B. Kessali joined the Ministry of Finance in 1980 as a Treasury , Credit and Insurance Senior Inspector. In 2003, he was appointed Acting General Manager of the Treasury. In 2005, he joined the Compagnie Algérienne d'Assurance et de Réassurance (CAAR) where he served as CEO until May 2020. In parallel to his activities at CAAR, he assumed the presidency of the Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (UAR).

On 2 June 2020, the former CEO of CAAR was appointed Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance.
