Collapse of three buildings in EgyptIn just a few days, three buildings collapsed completely or partially in three separate cities in Egypt, killing at least 14 people.

On Saturday 15 July 2023, two people lost their lives in the collapse of two balconies of a residential building in Alexandria. An investigation has been launched to identify the causes of the accident.

On Sunday 16 July, a seven-storey building collapsed in the town of Rosetta killing four people.

In addition to these two tragedies, a five-storey residential building collapsed on Monday 17 July in Cairo. The disaster claimed the lives of nine people. According to witnesses, the accident was caused by a ground floor resident who would have removed several walls during maintenance work.

In Egypt, the collapse of buildings has become increasingly frequent due in particular to illegal construction, non-compliance with safety standards and authorities' lax control.
