Bad weather in France: a record loss

ChargesAccording to France Assureurs, the severe bad weather that hit France between the end of May and the beginning of July 2022 has resulted in nearly one million claims with an estimated cost of 3.9 billion USD.

The country witnessed three episodes of exceptional events with hail, strong winds and floods, from 20 to 23 May, from 2 to 5 June and from 18 June to 1 July. The last event was the most devastating with 2.1 billion USD of insured damages.

Nearly 90% of the compensations are related to property damages for individuals. The damages caused to dwellings are expected to cost 1.07 billion USD while those affecting the motor class of business would amount to 1.08 billion USD.

According to the French federation of insurance companies, 2022 is likely to be one of the most costly years in the last two decades.
