Storm Ciaran: 397 to 515 million USD of insured losses

Storm CiaranFollowing the passage of storm Ciaran, Risk Weather Tech, a French company specializing in climate modeling and risk assessment, is expecting to register between 230 000 and 270 000 claims.

The same source also estimates the cost of insured losses to range from 370 to 480 million EUR (397 to 515 million USD), or almost 50% of the average annual storm, hail and snow claims.

The estimated cost of damage caused by Ciaran is lower than the 1.5 billion EUR (1.6 billion USD) generated by Xynthia in February 2010 and the 1.7 billion EUR (1.8 billion USD) caused by Klaus in January 2009. However, this amount will certainly be higher than the 210 million EUR (225 million USD) caused by storm Alex in October 2020.
