Floods and cold lava flows in Indonesia

Floods in IndonesiaOn the night between 11 and 12 May 2024, torrential rain fell on the island of Sumatra in western Indonesia, causing severe flooding. The heavy rainfall also triggered cold lava flows from the “Mount Marapi” volcano located to the west of the island.

As of 13 May 2024, the provisional death toll stood at 43, including two children, while 17 people are still missing.

Several houses and other public buildings were either swept away or damaged. Roads have turned into muddy rivers.
