Road fatalities on the rise in Tunisia
The National Road Safety Observatory (ONSR) has recorded 543 road accident-related deaths between 1 January and 25 June 2023. This represents a 30.84% increase over one year.
These fatal accidents are generally caused by road transport professionals: HGV drivers, bus drivers, collective taxi and cab drivers.
The number of people injured has dropped by 8.89% to 3 527.
Tunisian roads registered 2 519 accidents during the first half of 2023, representing a 6.7% decline compared with the same period in 2022.
Aside from the heavy death toll, road accidents generate economic losses of up to 800 million TND (257.4 million USD) every year.
