Tunisian insurance market: 2022 results

The Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA) has published the market's annual report for financial year 2022.

The overall turnover (direct business + acceptances) reached 3.185 billion TND (1.014 billion USD), up by 12.42% compared to the 2.833 billion TND (983.2 million USD) recorded on 31 December 2021.

Non-life premiums stood at 2.267 billion TND (722 million USD), representing a 71.19% market share. The life business posted 903.185 million TND (287.6 million USD) in written premiums, or 28.36% of the overall portfolio in 2022. Reinsurance acceptances amounted to 14.385 million TND (4.6 million USD).

STAR is still in the lead, with a market share of 12.13%. COMAR and ASTREE are next on the list, accounting for 7.94% and 7.41% respectively of the total premiums written in Tunisia at the end of 2022.

During the period under review, the amount of settled claims went up by 5.92% to 1.74 billion TND (554.1 million USD).
