Vietnam joins the ASEAN compulsory motor insurance scheme

ASEAN Insurance CouncilVietnam has joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' (ASEAN) Compulsory Motor Insurance Scheme (ACMI). This system requires compulsory third-party motor liability insurance for motor vehicles in transit or on their way to one of the ASEAN member States.

Not only does the ACMI system provide underwriting services, it also acts as a database for member States.

The Vietnamese national agency VINABAI is in charge of managing this program. VINABAI, whose members include insurance supervisory authorities, police and traffic and road safety departments, will be working hand in hand with Bao Viet Insurance Corporation, the sole Vietnamese insurer designated to issue these insurance contracts, also known as Blue Cards.
