Air transport: Allianz, lead insurer for Singapore Airlines

Singapore AirlinesAccording to initial reports, the German group Allianz is the main insurer of the Singapore Airlines aircraft that experienced severe turbulence on 21 May 2024.

The Boeing 777-300ER took off from London bound for Singapore. During its journey, the plane encountered severe turbulence, leaving one passenger dead and several others seriously injured.

The cabin also sustained substantial material damage.

The aircraft was forced to divert to Bangkok, Thailand, where ambulances were quickly dispatched to help the injured, some of whom are still in intensive care.

211 passengers and 18 crew were on board.

Under the Montreal Convention, Singapore Airlines is liable for accidents, which can include turbulence, on international flights, whether with or without negligence on the part of the airline.
