A heavy cold wave sweeps across Northern Europe

cold wave Northern EuropeThe first week of January 2024 was marked by extreme cold waves in a number of Nordic countries.

On the night between 5 and 6 January, the Norwegian capital, Oslo, recorded, for the first time, temperatures below -30°C.

On 3 January 2024, Sweden registered its lowest January temperature in 25 years (-43.6°C). Finland and Denmark also experienced freezing temperatures.

Closed schools and ski resorts, disrupted rail traffic - these are just some of the consequences of the successive cold snaps that have hit northern Europe over the past few days.
