Overview of natural disasters in 2023
A recent study conducted by Munich Re indicates that the economic damage caused by natural disasters in 2023 amounted to 250 billion USD. This figure is almost the same as the one recorded in 2022.
The insured losses stood at 95 billion USD, or 38% of the total claims cost.
Weather-related events claimed 74 000 lives in 2023, the deadliest being the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
