The collapse of the bridge Morandi in Genoa (Italy) on 14 August 2018 caused the death of 43 people according to a latest official report. The fall of a 250-meter section of the viaduct has revived the discussions on the safety of bridges and on the state of infrastructure in Italy.
Hence, in five years ten bridges have collapsed in this country which has a network of 45 000 bridges and viaducts, 60% of which would be dangerous according to the newspaper "Corriere della Sera".
Built in 1967 and 1.2 km long, the Morandi bridge was renovated two years ago by "Autostrade per l'Italia". a company that operates the A10 motorway and carries out regular security checks.
According to a first estimate from J.P. Morgan analysts, this disaster could cost insurance 685 million USD. This amount includes the material damage and the business interruption.
