Senegal's Insurers Association (AAS) has revealed that the compensations paid for motor related losses exceed 13 billion FCFA (22.6 million USD) per year, that is nearly 7.5% of the total turnover. In 2018, the latter amounted to 174.359 billion FCFA (304.03 million USD).
Motor insurance accounts for more than 20% of the total written premiums with more than 50% of losses directly related to traffic accidents. According to ASA's executive officer, road accidents [4] cost Senegal more than 74 billion FCFA (128.7 million USD) annually, that is 1% to 2% of its gross domestic product. As for the human toll, almost 600 deaths are reported each year.
