The pharmaceutical company Pfizer has begun the phase 1 trials of an antiviral treatment against Covid-19. Administered orally, the new drug is to be used as soon as the first symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 appear.
The antiviral agent inhibits the reproduction of the virus in the cells according to a process known in anti-HIV and hepatitis C treatments.
Alongside this first treatment, Pfizer is also launching the phase 1 trials of a second treatment administered intravenously. The tests are being conducted on patients hospitalized with Covid-19.
