According to the French insurance mediation service, insurance-related disputes have increased by 13% in 2021. The number of referrals reached 19 684 cases. The disputes mainly relate to home and motor insurance.
Claims resulting from natural events (storms, floods, drought, etc.) are often denied compensation and increasingly require recourse to the mediator. In 2021, the number of claims related to natural catastrophes and climatic events went up by 70%. Drought alone accounted for 10% of damage insurance claims in 2021, compared to 6% in 2019.
Disputes related to affinity insurance contracts have likewise climbed. They now represent 13% of the total number of cases received in 2021. The referrals mainly concern mobile telephony and travel cancellation risks.
