A bill designed to increase fines for uninsured vehicles

A particularly interesting bill has proposed a drastic increase in fines against owners of vehicles traveling without insurance, drivers not respecting traffic rules, and those who cause the death of children.

The new law sets the fine at 10 000 INR (162 USD) for uninsured motorcyclists, 25 000 INR (404.7 USD) for motorists and 75 000 INR (1214 USD) for motor carriers not having insurance certificate.

Under the current law, the fine is only 1 000 INR (16 USD) for driving without insurance, applicable to any type of vehicle. A recent study has found that 70% of motorcyclists and 30% of cars and trucks are not insured.
