A report by Gallagher Re finds that economic losses caused by natural disasters totalled 242 billion USD during the first nine months of 2026, 92 billion USD of which was borne by insurers.
These are the lowest figures recorded for the period from 1 January to 30 September since 2015 for economic losses and since 2019 for insured losses.
Severe storms accounted for nearly 60% of insured losses, including more than 43 billion USD in the United States and three other events in Europe, each resulting in losses of 1 billion USD.
