Turkey earthquake: loss estimateA fourth estimate by the PERILS research firm suggests that the insured losses caused by the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on 6 February 2023 should amount to 117 billion TRY (6.2 billion USD).

This cost was estimated at 92.8 billion TRY (4.9 billion USD) in August 2023, 86.4 billion TRY (4.6 billion USD) in May 2023 and 65.4 billion TRY (3.4 billion USD) in March 2023.

These estimates do not take into account the damage caused in Syria.

In terms of insured losses, this is the most expensive disaster in Turkey's history.

The Turkish government has provided financial aid worth 105.46 billion TRY (5.6 billion USD) in 2023 to support the victims of the earthquake.
