Seized aircraft: leasing companies reach agreement with Russia

Aircraft leasing companies have reached an agreement with Russia for more than a quarter of the 400 aircraft trapped in the country since the start of the conflict with Ukraine in 2022.

The lessors in question have received a total settlement of over 2.5 billion USD in exchange for transferring ownership of the aircraft to the Russian insurance company NSK. The State-owned insurer will in turn transfer the aircraft to Russian airlines.

For the record, the leasing companies have sued dozens of insurers for losses of up to 8 billion USD associated with aircraft grounded in Russia.
