Hurricane Matthew, heavy bill for reinsurers

The cost of insured losses of Matthew hurricane that devastated Haiti and the southeastern coast of the United States in early October 2016, is constantly being revised upwards.

The latest estimates from the Reuters news agency amounted to 30 billion USD. This figure has also been raised by the firm RMS (Risk Management Solutions) which ranged the losses between 20 and 30 billion USD.

Half of the insured losses would be covered by reinsurers.
The names of Swiss Re, Munich Re, Hannover Re and to a lesser extent, the French reinsurer SCOR, are mentionned.

According to estimates, Swiss Re, the most important reinsurer in the natural catastrophes fund of Florida, should be the most exposed.
