UnitedHealth Group and Allianz maintain their positions as the world's top insurers

AM Best has published a list of the world's largest insurance companies [4] based on two business indicators for 2022.

Insurers ranked by net written premiums in 2022:
The first three spots in the top 25 insurance companies are the same as in 2021. These top three positions are occupied by specialized health insurers: UnitedHealth Group, Centene Corporation and Elevance Health. These American health insurance companies recorded premiums amounting to 257.157 billion USD, 136.199 billion USD and 133.229 billion USD respectively.

Excluding health insurers, the top two places (P&C and life combined) are held by two Chinese companies: Ping An and China Life.

Insurers ranked by non-banking assets 2022:
With 1 100 billion USD in non-banking assets in 2022, the German Allianz Group is still at the top of the ranking.

The Chinese insurer Ping An has moved up two places from fourth place in 2021 to become the world's second-largest insurer in terms of assets in 2022 (960.678 billion USD).

Berkshire Hathaway has slipped to third place with 948.452 billion USD, marking a slight decline from its previous standing.
