Cyber-attack on MMA

In a gloomy economic and social atmosphere, the Mutuelles du Mans Assurance (MMA), members of the Covéa group, have faced a malicious piracy attempt.

The attack has led to the malfunctioning of its website (mma.fr) since Friday 17 July 2020. For the record, Covéa is the leader in business risks in France.

On Monday 20 July, the mutualist published a note to inform the users of its website (more than 2.45 million customers) that the problem was being solved. According to the MMA, no data leaks have been reported. Such events are likely to affect other entities of the group such as the MAAF and the GMF.

During the previous years, insurers have developed a specific coverage against cyber-attacks, for increasingly high premiums. The recourse to remote working during the Coronavirus pandemic, has increased the companies’ exposure to cyber-risks.
