Demographic evolution in Africa: a frenetic population growth

With a population of nearly 1.308 billion in 2019, Africa is the second most populous continent in the world. It is overtaken by Asia, which has a population of 4.601 billion inhabitants.

It will increase to 2.489 billion in the next 30 years. By 2100, the 4 billion inhabitants will be far exceeded.

This downward trend is due to a boom in population growth in sub-Saharan Africa and not to a falling birth rate of the populations in the north of the continent.
