Development of microinsurance in Africa

MicroinsuranceThe number of low-income people covered by health insurance in Africa doubled from 2014 to 2017, with 4.3 million insured at the end of 2017 out of the 15 million holders of microinsurance products.

These data are extracted from the "2018 Landscape of Microinsurance in Africa" study conducted with 100 microinsurance organizations operating on the continent. The implementation of new microinsurance products is constantly developing. This form of insurance meets people's expectations.

The emergence of new products distribution channels such as e-commerce which is used by 12% of insurers is also worth mentioning. Yet, microinsurance loss experience rose from 25% in 2014 to 45% in 2017.
