First insurance scheme for treatment of infertility

Nippon Life Insurance has started as of October 2, 2016 the marketing of the first insurance scheme designed to cover the costs induced by the treatment of infertility. Through this product, the company is hoping to counter the decline in birth rates in Japan. The policyholders who have undertaken in-vitro fertilization treatment with or without micro-injection will be eligible for compensations up to the twelfth attempt in addition to a lump sum for each birth.

Women aged between 16 and 40 will be entitled to this coverage. The monthly insurance premium amounts to 10 000 JPY (97.5 USD).
