Floods in South Africa: the toll gets heavier

cycloneSince April 23rd, 2019 South Africa has been lashed by heavy rains. The provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape are particularly affected as harsh weather has caused flooding and landslides.

A preliminary report shows that 70 people have died, homes have been destroyed and infrastructure has been washed away. More than one thousand people have also been displaced and relocated to shelters.

For nearly one month now, Southern Africa has been at the mercy of a wild nature. cyclone Idai which ravaged Mozambique and Zimbabwe in March 2019, killed nearly 1 000 people.

On Thursday the 25th of April, Kenneth, a second cyclone, hit Mozambique after passing through the Comoros and Mayotte. Tanzania is also threatened by Kenneth.
