French health insurance system under cyber attack

Cyber attackThe French National Health Insurance Fund (Cnam) was subject to a major cyber attack. Unauthorized individuals managed to access the accounts of 19 healthcare workers.

Through these connections, the hackers were able to hack into the "Infopatient" service using computer robots, which allowed them to retrieve the personal information of 510.000 insured persons.

The stolen data includes the identities of customers (surname, first name, date of birth, gender), the social security number and data relating to rights (declaration of a treating physician, allocation of complementary health insurance or state medical aid, possible 100% coverage).

Contact details (email, address, telephone) and bank account details, as well as data on illnesses or healthcare were not affected.

The insurance company reset the accounts of the healthcare workers, while the 510.000 insured individuals were informed individually of this cyber attack.
