Generali: strong result growth in 2021

GeneraliAfter the health crisis that marked 2020, Generali recorded a strong recovery of its activities in 2021. The turnover increased by 7.2% and reached 75.825 billion EUR (85.9 billion USD).

Life premiums went from 48.557 billion EUR (59.6 billion USD) as of 31 December 2020 to 51.68 billion EUR (58.5 billion USD) by the end of last year, which represents a 6.4% annual growth.

The non-life activity, on the other hand, achieved 24.145 billion EUR (27.3 billion USD) of written premiums in 2021, thus increasing by 9% compared to 22.147 billion EUR (27.2 billion USD) in 2020. The non-life combined ratio impacted by the loss experience of natural disasters fell by 1.7 points to stand at 90.8%.

As of 31 December 2021, the Italian group recorded a 63.3% increase of its net profit set at 2.847 billion EUR (3.2 billion USD). On that date, the operating result stood at 5.852 billion EUR (6.6 billion USD), an increase of 12.4% compared to the same period in 2020.

Generali proposed to distribute a dividend of 1.07 EUR (1.2 USD) per share, payable as of 25 May 2022.

The company's shareholders' equity stood at 29.308 billion EUR (33.2 billion USD), showing a 2.4% decrease over the year. The return on equity (ROE) reached 12.1%.
