Guillain-Barré syndrome: side effect of AstraZeneca vaccine
On 8 September 2021, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) listed Guillain-Barré syndrome as a side effect of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
By late July 2021, the number of people who have developed the neu-rological disease reached 833 for 592 million doses administered, which is a risk of less than 1/10 000.
The EMA recommends that AstraZeneca updates the list of side ef-fects for its Covid-19 serum "Vaxzevria". The aim is to raise aware-ness among healthcare workers of the possible risks involved, even if they are qualified as very rare.
It should be noted that the people who received the Janssen vaccine have also been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome.
