High road insecurity in Saudi Arabia

According to the General Department of Traffic (GDT), Saudi Arabia recorded 533 380 road accidents in 2016, claiming the lives of 9 031 persons and causing injuries to 38 120 others.

In the last twenty years, nearly 100 000 persons have died on Saudi roads, making the kingdom, the second largest Arab country the 23rd worldwide in terms of fatal road accidents.
This situation is all the more worrying as nearly 55% of the vehicles traveling in Saudi Arabia are not insured.
