Increase of coverage limits granted to airline companies

The specific conditions for the running of the giant Airbus A380 plane have compelled insurance and reinsurance companies to revise the benchmark guarantees awarded to airlines upwards. The amount of the sums insured is estimated at 4 billion USD per craft. The insurers' major concern is the ground risk, the so-called « runway incursion ».

Airport authorities, on the other hand, have to adapt their insurance programmes as well as the amounts to be covered before the arrival of the first aircrafts. It is the company Singapore Airlines which will welcome the first A380 in 2006.
