Increased vehicle fleet and road mortality

According to the National Statistics Office, the Algerian car fleet slightly exceeded 5.4 million vehicles in 2014, an increase of 5.89% in comparison with 2013.

Despite this high number of vehicles, the Algerian insurance market is still faced with the inherent difficulties to the growth in the number and the cost of claims. Also according to the official statistics, car accidents caused 3984 deaths and 44,546 injuries. The automobile mortality increased by 6.29% compared to 2013. This is the reason why insurers were bound to ask for an increase in the motor third party liability insurance tariffs (MTPL) in 2015.
