Introducing agricultural insurance in Burkina Faso

noteIn partnership with the Société Nationale d'Assurances et de Réassurances (SONAR-IARD) and the Mutuelle Agricole Marocaine d'Assurance (MAMDA), the Burkinabe government is setting up an agricultural insurance scheme.

Its aim is to reduce the impact of climate change on producers and improve their income. The project shall start with a two-year pilot phase from 2020 to 2022 in the Boucle du Mouhoun, Centre-West and East.

Rice, sorghum and maize (cereals representing 86% of Burkina Faso's annual food consumption) are mainly targeted in this initiative.
