More than 130 small farmers compensated

For the first time since the launch of the American program, "Feed the Future" (FtF), 136 small farmers have benefited from compensation in 2012 due to drought. Since 2011, FtF has allowed small farmers in the north and west of Ghana to benefit from insurance coverage in case of dry season.
Several weather stations measure rainfall in the regions concerned, a measure initiated in association with Ghana’s National Insurance Commission, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana’s Insurers’ Association and the Ghana’s Meteorological Agency. Funded by the German ministry of environment, this plan has received support from Swiss Re.
