PERILS: Europe accounts for 70 615 billion USD of insured values due to storms

perilIn 2022, the PERILS Insurance Exposure Database (IED) has listed assets covered by storm insurance policies for a total amount of 78 000 billion EUR (85 000 billion USD). As of 1 January 2022, Europe accounted for 83% of this amount, that is 64 800 billion EUR (70 615 billion USD), thus increasing by 5.2% over one year.

PERILS points out that the conversion into US dollars leads to a 2% contraction of the insured value compared to 2021. This decrease is due to the appreciation of the dollar against the euro and several other currencies.

PERILS 2022 includes data on the insured amounts against natural hazards in the real estate markets of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Indonesia, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
