Project for the insurance of engineering works

Algerian authorities have found that roads deteriorated after only a few years of use. Non-compliance with building standards and weather conditions are the cause of such a situation.

These findings prompted them to write a bill requiring construction companies to underwrite an insurance covering damage beyond the twelve months following the final acceptance of the engineered structure.

The draft bill provides for compulsory insurance before the work begins. Manufacturers are also required to engage their liability for defects.
If the bill is adopted, the decennial third party liability insurance covering engineered structures will be reviewed.
