Road crashes strain the Malawi insurance market

The increase in road crashes is worrying local insurers. The statistics published by the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) refer to 962 accidents reported in 2017, compared to 694 a year earlier.

Malawi insurance company, Prime Insurance, reported having disbursed 3 billion MWK (4.2 million USD) for claims of road crashes in 2017.
